EXPLORE EXPLORE: NEW TOOLS & SOCIAL PRACTICES INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIPS PROGRAM OF INQUIRY

Features & Screenshots

STEPTool facilitates the work of teachers, literacy coordinators, and administrators by providing multiple lenses into student assessment data. These multiple lenses include the ability to view STEP data over time by individual student, class, grade and school levels.

School Wall: school, grade, and classroom
The School Wall is the main lens in viewing and querying students' STEP data. The School Wall provides three different granularities in viewing data: school, grade, and classroom. For all views, the user is able to zoom into the record of any selected student and view the student's historical assessment data.

The school view provides the current literacy level for all students. The grade view provides information about the current literacy level and progress for individual students during the current academic year. The class view captures the visualizations from the School and Grade Wall and provides specifics about the support services each student is receiving.

Progress and Patterns across Students
In addition to providing a visual representation of student progress, the STEP Wall allows users to easily search for patterns across students.

Users can customize their searches in the Analysis Helper by selecting queries such as, 'Show me students who haven't made any progress this year/period.

If users find patterns related to a group of students that they would like to explore the system enables the user to zoom into the group query lens in order to examine the group data more carefully.

Group Query Lens
The group query lens allows the teacher to focus inquiry on a subset of students by selecting from a range of characteristics such achievement level, support services, current teacher, grade, gender, ethnicity and amount of progress. Once a group of students has been selected, the user can compare student performance on specific assessments item or use specialized templates to compare historical performance across assessments items.

Student Query Lens
The student query lens allows users to focus directly on the performance of an individual student. This lens provides users access both current and historical assessment data for a selected student. The data is viewable as a table or as customized graph. As with the school and group query, data cells are color-coded to provide visual information as to the components of each assessment students have or have not achieved.

Report Generating Function
STEPTool has an easy to use report generating function that compiles relevant data for teachers, literacy coordinators, and administrators.
