EXPLORE EXPLORE: NEW TOOLS & SOCIAL PRACTICES INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIPS PROGRAM OF INQUIRY

Design Partners

SPACE is developed through a unique partnership of teachers and administrators at North Kenwood/Oakland Charter School and researchers at the Center for Urban School Improvement at the University of Chicago, Computer Sciences Department at University of Illinois at Chicago and Learning Sciences at Northwestern University.

Teachers and administrators at our partner school presented to our research team rough specifications of problems of practice along with their instructional framework grounded in Planning, Investigating, Synthesizing, and Publishing (PISP). We developed the prototype version and tested it within a science classroom. Through a series of ongoing observations and conversations with the users of SPACE, we have revised and adapted the system to improve our understandings of the problems and have further developed enhanced solutions to these problems.
