ePortfolio
Providing evidence of student work for a school community to develop common expectations and to plan and coordinate instruction across classes and grades

Designed to support ambitious instruction, ePortfolio is a central store of digitized student work organized around school standards. The system provides easy access to standards, assessments, and student work for teachers, administrators, students, and parents. Teacher assessment of student work in ePortfolio generates data on students' learning progress. A student portal provides opportunities for students to internalize standards and reflect on their progress.

A tool for the use of standards in instruction, ePortfolio:

  • Organizes student work, school standards, and assessment tools all in one location
  • Supports teacher assessment of student work to standards
  • Provides visualizations of individual student and whole-class progress toward standards
  • Creates opportunities for students to assess their own work using standards-based rubrics

Problems of Practice
One of the difficulties in achieving standards-based instruction is overcoming the considerable variability in practices across classrooms. Standards documents that might support instructional coherence remain unused. Teachers too rarely consider student work in terms of standards, and storage of and access to student work can be an obstacle. When students do not understand what the standards mean for their schoolwork, standards-based instruction is further compromised.

Value Added
ePortfolio supports the integration of standards into day-to-day work in schools. Teachers can use ePortfolio to communicate with parents and students about expectations and progress. Individual and groups of teachers can use ePortfolio data to plan, assess, and revise the curriculum. Students can use ePortfolio to internalize schools standards for their own work.
